India seamer Arshdeep Singh got impatient after not getting a chance to play in the England Test series, revealed Punjab bowling coach Gagandeep Singh. Having earned his maiden Test call up for the tour, Arshdeep failed to feature in any of the matches despite having experience of playing county cricket for Kent.
The left-arm seamer has played 21 first-class matches and picked 66 wickets at an average of 30.37 with two five-wicket hauls to his name. Recently, Gagandeep Singh said that the team management may not have had confidence in Arshdeep and hence he was not considered.
“A few months ago when he was in England, I spoke to him. He was getting impatient that he was not getting a chance. I just told him, ‘You’ve to wait for your time’. I think they should’ve played him in England because he’s a swing bowler and he’s tall, everything’s good. I don’t know the team combinations, probably the coach (Gautam Gambhir) and captain (Shubman Gill) weren’t confident about him,” said Gagandeep.
The Punjab bowling coach further suggested Arshdeep to work on his swing and accuracy and also bring more variety in his arsenal.
“He can be a better bowler with more swing and more accuracy. I haven’t seen him in the last few months, but hopefully when I do, I can assess him better. From the recent matches that I have observed, he can work more on line and length, yorker balls, and especially bouncers, which are the more effective deliveries in international cricket,” he added.
Meanwhile, Arshdeep will next feature in the Asia Cup 2025, where India will start their campaign against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 10. The 26-year-old has been the team’s most successful bowler in the shortest format ever since his debut, as he’s now the highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 99 scalps from 63 innings at an average of 18.30 with best figures of 4/9.
Arshdeep will have the company of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana in the fast bowling department for the Asia Cup, along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
