The wait is finally over! The revered Lalbaugcha Raja has finally revealed their beautiful face. On the evening of August 24, Mumbai got the first peek of Lalbaugcha Raja 2025, the city’s most beloved Ganpati. The grand revelation was nothing short of awe-inspiring with people calling it a divine moment! Also known as the city’s most beloved Ganpati, the revelation of the statue has set the festive mood ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Here are interesting things to know about this year’s idol:
A royal avatar in purple dhotiThe first look of the statue left devotees in awe as this year’s Lalbaugcha Raja is beautifully dressed in a purple dhoti. The beautiful majestic mukut (crown) adorns his head. He holds a chakra in one of his hands. The royal look won hearts immediately, with devotees chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya!”
The golden throne mandapThe 2025 mandap has been designed in a palace-like setting. It’s a 50-foot idol, clad in a maroon
pithambar (robe), which looks grand under lights, making this year’s theme one of the most awe-inspiring ones.
Unity in diversityA number of Muslim artisans helped in stitching the beautiful velvet curtain covering the idol. This only shows India’s unity in diversity. This is one of those festivals in India where all communities come together to celebrate the homecoming of
Lord Ganesha!
History: A tradition since 1934For those who don’t know, Lalbaugcha Raja has been a part of Mumbai’s cultural background since 1934. Devotees line up in queues where waiting time can go up to 30–40 hours! Can you believe it? The tradition continues to draw lakhs of devotees, photographers and travellers every year.
Eco-friendly This year, another prime point of focus is on sustainability. There are several artisans across the city who are promoting eco-paper idols. These are eco-friendly, light and easier to immerse. The main point is to save water bodies from pollution and these are less harmful. This only shows that devotion and sustainability can go hand in hand.
The first look has definitely set the stage for another memorable Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 in Mumbai. So if you are looking for an unforgettable cultural experience in Maharashtra, then just say “
Ganpati Bappa Maurya, Mangal Murti Maurya"!
